I worked in business management for 20 years for a UK business manufacturing in China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, North Africa and Eastern Europe, supplying product to some of the most well-known brands in the UK. In 2003 I took on a small local retail recovery project of my own. I successfully sold that business as a profitable one with a strong customer base in 2009 and having twins just starting school as well as a ten-year old at middle school I have been working freelance combining business experience and love of nature in a diverse number of areas.
As a freelance writer I have delivered projects such as the English Language version of the Birding Sevilla website; had birding travel articles published in both Bird Watching & Birdwatch magazines in the UK; had several articles published in the BAFTA award winning Birdguides webzine on varied subjects from rare birds, identification guides to conservation stories. As well as my own blog, I consider it a privilege to blog once per month at the superb 10 000 Birds. I'm happy to review bird-related products, books, optics and other equipment here on my blog. Always available to discuss the promotion, review and marketing of birding destinations and tours.
Bird News & Social Media
I work part-time at the cutting edge of rare bird news as part of the Birdguides News Team, successfully delivering rare & scarce bird news 365 days per year across Britain, Ireland & The Channel Isles. I am active and involved with social media, advising a number of organisations about how to get the best from social media in their businesses.
In January 2011 I launched Northumbrian Wildlife Tours offering guided birding & birdwatching walks in North East England and I am continuing to develop this offer to add new and innovative ideas and locations to the guided birdwatching niche locally.
I am currently Honorary Secretary of Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club and have co-authored their annual report on fiveoccasions (2001, 2002, 2009, 2010, 2011).
In my spare time when not running around after the kids I go birding.
