Lightning Strikes Twice

Last year 5/11/2008 Olive-backed Pipit at Flamborough Head

This lunchtime one year later John Mcloughlin finds....

Olive-backed Pipit on Flambourough Head.

Right place, right time.

And has anyone else noted the increase this year, I reckon possibly up to 18 individuals (assuming all the birds on Shetalnd were different individuals) as opposed to eight and nine in last two years. Reasons?

Hi Alan,
18 OBPs is a reasonable showing but not spectacular. For example - 1987 - 20, 1990 - 43, 1993 - 35 then a steady decline to single figures until a recent lift 2000 - 18, 2001 - 19, 2006 - 15. So this species does appear in peaks and troughs no doubt weather related rather than a westward expansion?
